Budget-Conscious Grading Setup: Free Resolve & GUI Monitor?
Hey everyone, Fatima Al-Rashid here, working as a sound designer but dipping my toes into color for my own narrative shorts. I've been doing some research on grading suites and keep seeing recommendations for really high-end hardware like FSI monitors and Advanced Panels. While that's the dream, it's definitely not in my current budget. My latest project, shot on an ALEXA Mini with some PavoTube II 30X for lighting, could really benefit from a solid grade. I'm already comfortable with the free version of DaVinci Resolve. My question is, how can an aspiring colorist build a functional, budget-conscious suite using tools like the free DaVinci Resolve and a properly calibrated GUI monitor? What are the key considerations and compromises, and what hardware would give me the best bang for my buck without breaking the bank? I'm trying to figure out how to get reliable results without investing in a full reference monitor just yet.
