AI Music: From Temp to Primary Score for Indie Films?
Hey everyone, I'm David, an editor currently cutting an indie feature shot on a VENICE 2 with a pretty tight post budget. We've been using some AI-generated tracks from AIVA for temp scores, and honestly, some of them are getting alarmingly close to what we'd want as a final. It's making me wonder about the future here.
My experience with AI music has mostly been for pitching or general background in corporate shorts, never seriously considered for a main score on a narrative film. We usually hire a composer, even if it's a newer one. But seeing what these platforms can do now, and considering the budget pressures many indie productions face (we were scrimping on lighting, using a couple of Forza 720Bs and PavoTube II 30Xs for a lot of scenes), it feels like a real shift might be coming.
So, my question is: in the next five years, do you see AI music generators like AIVA or Soundraw moving beyond just 'temp score' tools and truly becoming primary, final scoring solutions for independent films? Or will they always be a placeholder?
