Key Grip / Gaffer roles: How have they shifted with virtual production?
Hey everyone, as a focus puller, I'm always trying to stay ahead of the curve. I've been on a few smaller shoots lately where we're incorporating LED walls for backgrounds, using a VENICE 2 or an ALEXA Mini, and it feels like the lines are blurring a bit. I'm seeing DPs doing more with lighting themselves, and on one recent commercial, our Key Grip was almost acting as a rigging supervisor for the LED panels. I'm wondering if this is a trend across the board. What specific new skills or responsibilities are Key Grips and Gaffers needing to pick up for virtual production and more hybrid sets? Has their traditional job description fundamentally changed in the last three years in anyone's experience?
