Zero-Waste Sets on Remote Locations: Practical Hurdles?

Hey fellow cinematographers and crew, I'm Rohan Kapoor, usually working with an ALEXA 35 or Mini LF and pretty committed to making our sets greener. I've been doing some reading on 'zero-waste' set goals, which sounds fantastic in theory. My last project, a commercial shoot in rural Montana, highlighted something really challenging though. We had our usual catering, a ton of expendables, and generators running LS 1200d Pros off-grid for days. We tried separating what we could, but the nearest recycling center was hours away, and composting wasn't even an option, no services, no facilities. Even basic trash removal was a struggle. For those of you who've actually attempted something like this in truly remote areas with limited, or non-existent, local infrastructure for recycling or composting, what were your biggest logistical hurdles? And what, if anything, did you find actually worked for reducing waste effectively?
