When is hard-wired SDI backup impractical? Seeking alternatives!
Hey everyone,
I'm Sofia, a Location Scout, and I'm currently prepping for a really dynamic shoot, lots of movement, quick setups, and changes between scenes in different parts of a large, complex building. The Production Manager is stressing the importance of having a robust SDI backup for monitoring, which I totally get for critical feeds. The recommendation I'm hearing is to always have a hard-wired backup ready to go.
My concern is about the practical logistics in these super fast-paced situations. In what real-world, high-energy shooting scenarios have you found that keeping a hard-wired SDI connection as a primary backup becomes truly impractical or too slow to deploy? And when it does, what’s your go-to, next-best alternative for reliable monitoring when you can't run a quick cable?
