Day/Night Flips on a Budget: Low-Budget Location Conundrum

I'm a 2nd AD on a short film and we're totally up against it. Our current script has us needing both a day exterior and a night exterior scene at the same, crucial location. We only have one day budgeted for this spot due to location fees and scheduling.

Now, every guide and seasoned AD I've spoken to has basically screamed 'NO!' at the idea of a day/night flip within a single day. The warnings are pretty dire about lost time, crew fatigue, and just the sheer operational nightmare. I totally get it in theory.

But what do you actually do when you have no other choice? We can't afford to get the location for a second day, and cutting one of the scenes isn't an option for the story. We're looking at maybe one G&E truck, a small crew.

Has anyone successfully pulled off a day/night flip under these low-budget constraints? What are the absolute bare necessities to make it work, or at least minimize the catastrophe? Any and all advice on how to prep for this specific type of pain would be hugely appreciated. Is it even possible to do without completely falling apart?
