Budget-Conscious Writing: How Early Does Location Minimization Influence the Draft?

Hey everyone, Nina here. I'm a working screenwriter, and I'm wrestling with a concept for a new project. It's a character-driven thriller, and I'm really trying to be mindful of production realities from the jump. My current plan involves a protagonist who's essentially trapped, which inherently limits locations, think contained thrillers. I've found it makes for some really intense, focused scenes, but I'm wondering if I'm thinking about this too soon.

I've tried outlining with a lot of location changes before, only to have to pare them back significantly in later drafts for budget reasons. This time, I'm trying to proactively minimize. Does anyone else deliberately factor in budget, like restricting locations, right from that very first outline or draft? How does that impact your creative choices and the story's development?
