Screenwriting in 2026: AI & Inclusive Language - How Has the Job Changed?
Hey everyone, I'm Ngozi Emeka, a working screenwriter here. I've been heads-down on a couple of passion projects for a while, and honestly, the industry feels like it's shifting fast. I’m thinking about jumping back into some studio pitches later this year, and I've been hearing a lot about AI screenplay analyzers becoming more prevalent, alongside the growing emphasis on inclusive language and representation.
My last big studio project was about five years ago, and I remember the focus then being mostly on structure, pacing, and dialogue punchiness. Now, it feels like there’s a whole new layer of considerations. I'm trying to wrap my head around what this actually means for the day-to-day work. Are people using specific software for early drafts? Are creative conversations with executives fundamentally different? Do you find yourselves spending more time on character breakdowns or sensitivity reads than before?
How is the day-to-day job of a screenwriter different in 2026 compared to five years ago, especially with these new AI tools and inclusive language requirements?
