Loglines for High-Concept Sci-Fi on a Micro-Budget: Which 'Patterns' Work Best?
Hey everyone, I'm working on a high-concept sci-fi micro-short. The story itself is pretty ambitious, but my budget is, well, micro. Think one location, a couple of actors, and practical effects only. I've been trying to craft a logline that captures the spirit of the script, referencing those '20 Patterns Buyers Respond To' ideas. The problem is, some of those patterns seem to lean heavily on visuals or large-scale action that I simply can't deliver on screen.
I've tried a few loglines playing on 'Fish Out of Water' or 'Unlikely Hero' types, but I'm worried it undercuts the 'high concept' part. How do you all adapt these common logline patterns for projects with severe budget limitations? Are there specific patterns that are more effective at selling an ambitious concept affordably, without over-promising what will actually be seen in the film? I'd love to hear your experiences.
