Lav Hiding Nightmares: What are the common "rookie errors"?
Hey everyone, I'm Brianna Lawson, a working Casting Associate, and this has been on my mind. Especially thinking back to my early days on set, I made a ton of mistakes trying to hide lavs, and it was always a scramble. Now, even seeing some indie productions come through, I still notice issues.
My team often deals with talent wearing everything from bespoke suits to delicate dresses, and even high-performance athletic wear for commercial shoots (we recently did some spots with an ALEXA 35 and an 888 for sound, where the athletic wear was a real challenge).
From your experience, what do you think are the most common pitfalls or 'rookie errors' filmmakers make when attempting to mic talent in these types of costumes? And more importantly, how do you usually troubleshoot them on set, especially when time is tight?
