CRI/TLCI and Mixed Practicals: Your Workflow?

Hey everyone,

As a Steadicam op, I'm usually focused on framing and movement, but I'm getting more and more into the lighting side of things, especially with the control we have now. Lately, I've been doing a lot of commercial work, and it seems like every other set has a mix of LED panels, Kino tubes, and practicals ranging from old fluorescents to new Edison bulbs. We shoot a lot on an ALEXA Mini or V-RAPTOR XL, and even with robust color science, these different light sources can be a real headache.

I've tried gelling everything to a common Kelvin, and sometimes using color meters, but matching the spectral response, especially with cheap practicals, feels like a constant battle against weird green spikes or muddy skin tones. It often adds a ton of time on set.

I'm curious: what's your personal workflow for integrating CRI/TLCI considerations into pre-production planning, and how do you tackle mixed practical bulbs on set? Any tricks for wrangling those inconsistent color renditions efficiently?
