BRAW/ProRes RAW: NLE Workflow Headaches (Resolve/FCPX) - Seeking Advice
Hey everyone,
Jason Fong here, a Gaffer finding myself in a bit of a workflow pickle these days. With more projects shooting on cameras like the URSA Mini Pro G2 (BRAW) or sometimes the ALEXA Mini (ProRes RAW, often via Atomos), I'm constantly bouncing between Resolve for the heavy lifting and FCPX for quick edits or client previews, depending on the post house or director's preference.
My issue is the friction moving footage back and forth. Resolve handles BRAW beautifully, but ProRes RAW is a non-starter. FCPX is great for ProRes RAW, but BRAW needs plugins and often transcoding. I’ve tried proxies, but that defeats some of the RAW flexibility, and I'm looking for a more elegant solution. It feels like I'm always compromising somewhere.
How have you guys streamlined your personal workflows to deal with these competing RAW formats and the interoperability issues between NLEs like Resolve and FCPX? Is there a magic bullet I'm missing?
