Client Reviews on Laptops vs. Master Quality: How Do You Balance It?

Hey everyone, I'm Nadine, a working Script Supervisor, and I'm wrestling with a common scenario. I’m always striving for technically perfect masters, especially after working on projects shot on an AMIRA or a VENICE 2, where the color and exposure are meticulously dialed in by some incredible DITs and colorists. I use DaVinci Resolve for my reports, and I'm meticulous about checking my deliverables.

Now, common wisdom (and good practice) dictates that we shouldn't trust consumer players like VLC for quality control. Yet, I constantly encounter situations where clients, and even some producers, are reviewing dailies and final cuts on their uncalibrated laptops. They'll give notes based on what they see there, which is often drastically different from our calibrated monitors.

I’ve tried explaining the limitations of different screens, but it often falls on deaf ears. How do you all navigate this? Is there a point where you start making small compromises in the master to accommodate these less-than-ideal viewing environments, or do you stick rigidly to the technical specifications, knowing it might look 'off' for some? How do you balance delivering a technically perfect master with ensuring it also looks good in these non-ideal viewing environments?
