Layering SFX on a Tight Deadline: Producer's Workflow Challenge
Hey everyone, Elena here. I'm currently producing a commercial spot, and we're looking at a pretty aggressive post-production timeline for the sound design. The sound designers I've worked with previously have always emphasized creating really rich, layered sound effects, thinking things like the subtle 'thwack' of a door closing needing three or four distinct elements to feel right. For this production, we're shooting on a V-RAPTOR XL and have a solid audio team using a MixPre-10 II, so the source material is great.
My genuine question for the community is this: How do you practically apply that 'layering many sounds for a single SFX event' philosophy when you're up against a tight post-production schedule? I've seen it done beautifully, but it often seems to involve a significant time investment. Have any of you found efficient workflows or specific techniques that help achieve that layered depth without completely blowing the timeline?
