Compressed RAW, M-series chips, and the cost-benefit of shooting RAW now?

Hey everyone, I'm a Key Grip, Chris O'Brien. I’m currently prepping for a narrative short where we're debating shooting RAW on the ALEXA Mini versus a more compressed codec to save on post-production time and storage. The director's keen on pushing the grade, but I'm trying to be realistic about our budget and turnaround. I've been seeing how much more accessible compressed RAW is, specifically BRAW, and also how powerful these new M-series chips are making post-production. It feels like the landscape has shifted. How has the evolution of compressed RAW formats and these powerful integrated chips like Apple's M-series altered the cost-benefit analysis for shooting RAW in the last few years? I'm genuinely curious if the 'cost' side of shooting RAW has shrunk enough to make it a no-brainer on more projects now.
