Production Designer, Independent Feature

Hey Chicago, looking for a talented Production Designer to join our independent feature film. It's a dark comedy, kind of a modern-day Fargo meets Coen Brothers, set in various mundane suburban locations that need a real visual punch. We're aiming for a strong aesthetic that emphasizes the absurdity and underlying tension of the story without going over the top. As our Production Designer, you'll be responsible for developing the overall visual style of the film, overseeing set decoration, props, and location dressing. We need someone who can translate our script into compelling visual environments, working closely with the director and DP. You'll manage a small art department crew, source materials, and ensure everything is executed within budget. We're looking for someone with solid experience, ideally 3-5 feature film credits, with a strong portfolio or reel showcasing your ability to create distinct worlds. Experience working on independent productions where resourcefulness is key is a big plus. You'll need to be available for pre-production starting early September, with principal photography planned for October (approximately four weeks). We'll provide a full art department budget and local transportation. This is a day rate position, negotiable based on experience, between $1000 and $1500 per day. Excited to see your work!
