Screenwriter, Elevated Horror Short

Short Film Screenwriting Sydney, AU mid Budget: $300-500/day

Looking for a talented screenwriter for an upcoming elevated horror short film slated for early 2025. This project explores themes of isolation and psychological dread within a unique, unsettling suburban setting. We're aiming for a tone reminiscent of 'Hereditary' meets 'It Follows', with a strong emphasis on character-driven suspense rather than jump scares. Your primary responsibility will be to develop a compelling 15-20 page script based on an existing logline and treatment. This involves crafting sharp dialogue, building detailed character arcs, and structuring a narrative that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of genre conventions, but also willing to push boundaries and explore new approaches to horror storytelling. We need someone with mid-level screenwriting experience, ideally with a produced short film or feature credit (or several award-winning scripts). Please provide a portfolio or links to your work (scripts, short films, etc.) that showcase your ability to write engaging narratives, especially within the horror or psychological thriller genres. This is a paid position, offering $300-500 per day for your writing services, dependent on experience and output. We anticipate approximately 10-15 days of work spread over 4-6 weeks for initial drafting and revisions. This will be a remote position, though we're ideally looking for someone based in Sydney, Australia for potential in-person meetings. Open to remote collaboration with regular check-ins. I'm Isla, a costume designer on the project, helping our director find the right talent. Excited to see some great writing!
