Camera for Short Film

Our independent production is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic 1st Assistant Camera (1st AC) to join our passionate crew for an upcoming sci-fi drama short film. This project delves into themes of artificial intelligence and human connection, featuring a poignant, visually driven narrative set against a slightly futuristic backdrop. We’re aiming for a grounded, intimate aesthetic with subtle sci-fi elements that support the emotional core. We need someone who can help us achieve this vision. You will be responsible for maintaining sharp focus, managing camera equipment, and assisting the Cinematographer with setup and breakdowns. Key responsibilities include pulling focus, managing lens changes, maintaining camera logs, and ensuring all camera equipment is in excellent working order. We’re seeking an entry-level candidate with a strong understanding of camera mechanics, excellent attention to detail, and a calm demeanor under pressure. Prior experience as a 1st AC on short films or student projects is a plus. Please have your own follow focus system and basic camera toolkit. A strong reel or portfolio demonstrating your focus-pulling skills is essential. The shoot is approximately 2-3 days, tentatively scheduled for mid November 2026, with some prep time required beforehand. We will provide all camera body, lenses, and support gear. This is a deferred compensation project (points plus deferred pay), perfect for someone looking to gain experience and contribute to a compelling story.
