Documentary Screenwriter, Mid-level (Remote OK)

Seeking a mid-level screenwriter for an independent documentary project, focusing on the hidden world of urban foraging in Toronto. This film aims to blend observational footage with compelling narrative arcs, exploring themes of sustainability, community, and overlooked natural resources within a bustling city. It's a visually rich story that needs a strong narrative backbone to connect diverse perspectives. Key responsibilities include developing the film’s narrative structure, crafting interview questions, assisting with voiceover script development, and collaborating closely with the director to refine the story as footage comes in. We’re looking for someone with a proven track record in documentary storytelling, able to identify compelling storylines and translate real-life events into an engaging script. Candidates should have previous experience writing for documentary or non-fiction projects and a reel or portfolio demonstrating their narrative capabilities. While Toronto-based is preferred, we are open to remote collaboration for the right candidate. Compensation is deferred (deferred pay). This is an upcoming project, with development and writing expected to begin in late Spring.
