Screenwriter, Feature Doc (LA)

Documentary Screenwriting Los Angeles, CA any Budget: Points + deferred

Hey filmmakers, I'm a dolly grip working on an independent production and we're looking for a talented screenwriter to join our team for an upcoming feature documentary. This isn't your typical talking-head doc; we're exploring the quirky world of competitive pigeon racing, focusing on the passion, drama, and unexpected humor found within this unique subculture. We're aiming for a tone that's both heartfelt and highly engaging, something that will resonate with a broad audience, even if they've never thought about pigeons before. Your main responsibilities will include developing a compelling narrative arc, structuring interviews, crafting naturalistic dialogue for potential re-enactments (if needed), and helping us shape the overall storytelling. We're looking for someone who can bring a fresh perspective and really dig into the human element of this niche world. Experience level isn't as critical as passion and a strong voice. If you've got a killer short script, a strong writing sample, or even just some compelling concepts, we want to hear from you. Please send over anything you think showcases your storytelling abilities, a brief cover letter outlining your interest, and your availability. This is an independent production, so compensation will be points plus deferred, reflecting our belief in the project's success. Shoot dates are TBD but likely early to mid-2025. We're based in Los Angeles so local candidates are preferred, but we're open to remote collaboration if the fit is right. Thanks!
