Locations for Documentary

Documentary Locations New York, NY any Budget: $500-800/day

Hey everyone, I'm Elena, an independent producer, and I'm looking for a motivated Location Scout or Manager for an upcoming independent documentary project here in New York City. This film will explore the hidden histories of everyday NYC spaces, focusing on the people and events that have shaped them. We're aiming for a grittier, more observational tone, finding beauty in the overlooked. This role will be crucial in helping us uncover unique and visually compelling locations, from bustling public squares to forgotten back alleys and everything in between. Your main responsibilities will include researching and scouting potential filming locations across all five boroughs, obtaining necessary permits and clearances, negotiating access with property owners, and managing location logistics on shoot days. We need someone who's resourceful, persistent, and has a strong understanding of NYC's diverse neighborhoods. Experience with documentary permitting is a big plus, but we're open to all experience levels, even emerging talent with a knack for finding great spots. Please share any previous location work, even if it's informal, or a brief explanation of your approach to scouting. Shoot dates are TBD but will likely span several weeks in late summer/early fall, with flexible scouting hours leading up to production. We'll provide all necessary transportation costs within NYC and cover any associated location fees. This is a paid position, offering $500-800 per day, depending on experience and the scope of work.
