Gaffer for Sci-Fi Short (Paid)

We're looking for a Gaffer to lead our lighting department starting early October 2026 for a high-concept sci-fi short film. This project explores themes of memory and reality, featuring a grounded, intimate tone with striking visual moments. We aim for a look that's both realistic and subtly ethereal. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the DP to execute the lighting plan, managing grip and electric equipment on set, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. You'll be overseeing a small but dedicated G&E team. We're open to all experience levels; your reel or portfolio demonstrating strong lighting skills and creative problem-solving is most important. While we will provide essential gear, having access to some of your own specialized equipment is a plus. Shoot dates are tentatively planned for 2-3 days over one weekend in October 2026, with flexible pre-production work starting about two weeks prior. Expect 10-12 hour shoot days. Compensation is $300-500/day, depending on experience and equipment contribution. We're a friendly, independent production looking for a passionate and collaborative team member in Los Angeles.
