Gaffer for Sci-Fi Web Series

An independent production is seeking a skilled Gaffer to join our team for an upcoming sci-fi web series. This project is a visually driven, atmospheric thriller with a dark, cerebral tone, exploring themes of artificial intelligence and isolation. We're looking for someone creative who can help us achieve a distinct, stylized look on a limited budget, making the most of practical and subtle lighting. It's a fantastic opportunity for a senior Gaffer to contribute significantly to the visual storytelling. Key responsibilities include designing and executing lighting setups, managing and supervising a small grip and electric team, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and collaborating closely with the DP to realize the director's vision. You'll be instrumental in shaping the visual mood and bringing our world to life. Applicants should have extensive experience gaffing narrative content, ideally in the sci-fi or thriller genres. Please provide a reel or portfolio showcasing your work, specifically highlighting your lighting designs. You should be comfortable working with a variety of lighting equipment and be prepared to troubleshoot on the fly. Experience with smaller, independent crews is a big plus. We can provide some essential gear, but preference will be given to those who can bring a basic lighting package. Shoot dates are tentatively scheduled for 1-2 days per week, primarily over three weeks in the last week of September 2026 and the first two weeks of October 2026. Days will be approximately 10-12 hours. We're shooting in various locations around Los Angeles. Craft services and some meals will be provided. Compensation is $100-200/day, dependent on experience and gear contribution.
