Mid-Level Screenwriter (Feature Drama)
Hey Chicago writers, I'm a documentary filmmaker shifting gears a bit and looking for a mid-level screenwriter for an upcoming independent feature film. It's a character-driven drama with elements of magical realism, exploring themes of memory and grief in a unique way. We're aiming for a tone that's both poignant and subtly hopeful, something that really sticks with you. We need someone who can take a detailed treatment and develop it into a compelling, 90-100 page screenplay. This involves developing dialogue, fleshing out character arcs, and ensuring the narrative hooks the audience from start to finish. You'll be working closely with me to refine the story and bring this vision to life. Ideally, you'll have 2-3 produced credits (short or feature) or a strong portfolio of award-winning unproduced scripts. While not required, experience writing in magical realism or similar genres would be a huge plus. Compensation is deferred, with a backend percentage offered. Please submit a brief cover letter, your resume, and a writing sample (preferably a full script or substantial excerpt) for review. Our goal is to have the script drafted within the next 4-6 months, with regular check-ins and revisions. Excited to read your work!
