Production Design for Documentary

Documentary Production Design Los Angeles, CA senior Budget: Co-producer credit + backend

Uncover the hidden history of LA's underground jazz scene, from speakeasies to legendary clubs, in this intimate independent documentary. We're looking for a senior Production Designer to join our small, passionate team in Los Angeles. This isn't just about set dressing, it's about crafting an authentic visual journey that transports our audience back in time, often with limited resources. Key responsibilities include conceptualizing and executing period-appropriate looks for interview spaces and some vérité sequences, sourcing props, and collaborating closely with our director and DP. You'll need significant experience in documentary or period narrative work, a strong eye for detail, and a reel showcasing your ability to create impactful environments on a budget. Gear is not required, as we'll handle rentals. This is a partnership opportunity, offering a Co-producer credit and backend participation, suitable for someone looking to truly invest in a compelling story. We anticipate about 3 weeks of work, primarily prep, with a few 1-2 day shoots scheduled for late September or early October 2026. This is a unique chance to shape the visual narrative of a project we believe has real heart and historical significance. Please send your reel and a brief intro by September 26, 2026.
