Senior Screenwriter, Sci-Fi Short (Deferred Pay)

Seeking a talented senior screenwriter for an upcoming independent sci-fi short film. We're developing a thought-provoking narrative set in a near-future Los Angeles, exploring themes of memory, identity, and the ethical implications of advanced AI. The tone is a blend of contemplative drama and subtle suspense, with a focus on character-driven storytelling. We've got a compelling concept and a strong vision for the visuals, led by myself as Production Designer, and are looking for a writer who can bring this world to life on the page. Your key responsibilities will involve collaborating closely with the Director and me to develop the script from concept through to a polished, shoot-ready draft. This includes outlining, multiple draft revisions, and contributing to character development and dialogue. We're looking for someone who can craft sharp, efficient dialogue and build a rich, believable world within the constraints of a short film format. We require applicants to have significant experience writing completed short or feature-length screenplays, preferably in the sci-fi or dramatic genres. Please submit a resume and a portfolio that includes at least two writing samples, ideally a short film screenplay or excerpts from a feature. Familiarity with scriptwriting software (e.g., Final Draft) is expected. This is a deferred pay position, with the understanding that all proceeds from festival runs and distribution will be shared equitably among the core creative team. Anticipate an intensive collaborative period over approximately 4-6 weeks for script development.
