VFX for Documentary

An independent production team is seeking a talented Editor to join our upcoming documentary project, a compelling look into the resurgence of traditional artisan crafts in the digital age. This film explores the personal stories of San Francisco Bay Area makers, highlighting their dedication to hand-made quality and community. We’re aiming for an intimate, character-driven tone with strong visual storytelling. We need someone with a keen eye for narrative structure and pacing, capable of shaping raw footage into a cohesive and emotionally resonant story. Key responsibilities include assembling initial cuts, integrating archival footage and interviews, and collaborating closely with the director and VFX Artist (myself!) to achieve the desired aesthetic and storytelling goals. You'll be working primarily in Adobe Premiere Pro. Applicants should have professional editing experience on at least two prior documentary or narrative projects, and a strong portfolio or reel demonstrating your ability to craft engaging stories. While we have a central editing suite, you should have access to your own editing workstation (e.g., MacBook Pro or equivalent PC) and software. Experience with color grading and sound design is a plus, but not strictly required as we have dedicated professionals for those stages. This is for approximately 4-5 weeks of work, primarily during late October 2026 to early December 2026, with some flexibility. The daily rate is $150-300, based on experience. We provide lunch on days we're working together at our SF studio. Please include your reel and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience.
