Hiding Lavs: What are the common pitfalls and your best troubleshooting tips?
Hey everyone, Annika here. As an editor, I often receive footage where the audio team clearly struggled with lav placement, and it brings me right back to my early days on set. I made countless mistakes trying to hide mics effectively, especially with challenging wardrobe. You know, when you're trying to get a clean signal from someone in a silk dress, a tight-fitting athletic shirt, or a meticulously tailored suit. I’ve seen everything from fabric rustle nightmares to visible bumps. My current project, a corporate doc shooting on an AMIRA with a MixPre-6 II, is requiring more on-camera interviews, and I want to make sure we're getting this right from the jump. So, from your experience, what do you think are the most common pitfalls or 'rookie errors' filmmakers make when attempting to mic talent wearing suits, dresses, or athletic wear? And crucially, how do you usually troubleshoot these issues on set to avoid those frustrating reshoots or post-production headaches?
