Insurance Pitfalls: GL/WC - What's the BIGGEST first-timer mistake?

Hey everyone,

I'm James, a sound designer, usually busy with my MKH 50 and 4017s, but lately I've been diving into producing my own short. It's a small passion project, mostly shot on an FX6 with some nice amaran 150c lights, and we're finally starting to wrap up post.

Going through all the paperwork, I'm trying to make sure I'm doing everything by the book, especially with insurance. I've been looking into general liability and workers' comp. It seems like a minefield of potential errors, with things like underinsuring GL or misclassifying workers for WC being mentioned as common pitfalls.

For those of you with more producing experience, particularly on smaller indies, which of these specific mistakes do first-time filmmakers (like myself, producing-wise) most commonly fall into? And what's the single most impactful, practical step to take to completely avoid that particular pitfall?
