Prelight Plans vs. On-Set Chaos: Disaster War Stories & Saves?

Hey fellow Gaffers and lighting pros,

I'm currently gaffing a short film on an AMIRA with some pretty intricate practical light work planned, and like all of us, I'm aiming for a smooth prelight to save valuable shoot time. I've spent days mocking up scenarios, even testing light spill with an Orbiter and Helios Tubes in a studio setting. The plan is solid on paper.

But we all know the reality of a film set. The 'ideal' often evaporates when a key talent decides they can't stand a certain angle, or a location permit shifts the entire shooting schedule around. I'm dreading that moment where my perfectly laid out plan crumbles.

Can anyone share a genuine 'war story' where your meticulously planned prelight went completely sideways due to unforeseen circumstances? What was the issue (talent, crew, location chaos, etc.), and more importantly, how did you adapt on the fly to salvage the prelight and still save time on the actual shoot day? I'm looking for real-world solutions to unexpected curveballs.

Any insights or tactics are hugely appreciated!
