Micro-Budget Intimacy: DIY Consent Workflows & Scene Integrity without an IC?
Hey everyone,
I'm Grace Nakamura, a casting director, and I'm stepping into directing my first short film, a micro-budget indie. It's an exciting challenge, but I'm facing a specific hurdle: we have a couple of really crucial intimacy scenes. Obviously, performer safety and comfort are paramount, and I want to ensure robust consent workflows are in place. However, with our budget, a dedicated intimacy coordinator simply isn't an option right now.
I've been trying to educate myself on best practices, but it feels like a lot of resources assume a larger production. I've had initial conversations with my actors, getting their comfort levels, and we've discussed boundaries for the general scenes. But how do you practically translate that into specific blocking and performance while maintaining the scene's emotional integrity, without the specialized support of an IC? What are your most effective DIY strategies for achieving this on a shoestring?
