When Ideal Coverage Plans Crumble: How Do You Adapt?

I’m Aisha Mbeki, and like most of you, I pour a lot of thought into my coverage plans. On my current indie feature, a historical drama, I had a particularly intricate scene mapped out, multiple characters, specific eyelines, subtle shifts in power dynamics requiring very precise framing. We rehearsed it endlessly, and I felt I had the perfect balance of options without unnecessary takes.

However, during production, a critical prop broke unexpectedly, and the location owner then informed us we had to be off-site two hours early. My meticulously planned shots for the back half of the scene were suddenly in jeopardy.

I ended up scrambling, simplifying setups on the fly, and focusing purely on the core emotional beats.
