Mindful Coverage: Workflow Integration & Shotlist Shorthand?

Posted by Brianna Lawson in Directing 0 views · 1 replies

Hey everyone,

I'm Brianna, a Casting Associate, and I'm really trying to be more intentional about coverage on the indie short films I've been directing lately. I'm keen on adopting more mindful 'Directing Coverage' principles, essentially getting what I need for the edit without overshooting and burning through time and resources.

I've tried sketching out my ideal sequence of shots, but sometimes on set, I still find myself getting caught up in 'just one more angle.' For those of you who have successfully integrated this mindful approach, how have you baked it into your personal pre-production and on-set workflow? Are there specific bullet points you add to your shot list, or a shorthand you use in your blocking diagrams, that helps you stick to getting essential options without overshooting?

Any practical tips or system suggestions would be incredibly helpful!
