Scaling Asset Libraries for Micro-Content: Pre-Pro & On-Set Strategies?

Hey fellow operators and filmmakers,

I'm Tyler, a camera op usually working on commercials and brand content. Lately, I've been wrestling with this idea of a 'scalable asset library', essentially, ensuring we're capturing micro-content pieces right from the start, not just relying on post to chop up the main deliverable.

I'm finding it tricky to bake this into our pre-production planning beyond just 'get extra B-roll.' On set, even with an ALEXA Mini or a VENICE 2, and maybe a Forza 500 II for key, the focus is always on the main shot. I've tried setting up a second camera, like an FX6, with a wider lens for ambient shots or separate product inserts, but it often feels like an afterthought or competes for attention.

How have you guys successfully adapted this concept into your workflow? What specific pre-production strategies do you use, and how do you manage the on-set execution to guarantee these versatile assets without compromising the primary shoot?
