Finding the Coverage 'Sweet Spot' - Learning from Early Directing Mistakes?

Hey everyone, Aisha Mbeki here. I'm directing a short film, a dialogue-heavy drama, and I'm really trying to be mindful of my coverage plan. In my last project, I felt like I overshot drastically, getting endless angles and wasting time/resources in edit. Before that, I remember an early project where I undershot, leaving myself with limited options and a struggle to piece scenes together dynamically.

It feels like there's a 'sweet spot' for coverage (enough options to tell the story effectively and give an editor breathing room, but not so much that you're buried in footage or blowing your schedule. Thinking back to when you were starting out, what's a common mistake you or other new directors made regarding acquiring coverage) either undershooting or wildly overshooting 'options'? And more importantly, how did you learn to find that elusive sweet spot?
