AI Video Gen: Now usable for VP background plates?

Hey ACs and VP OPs, Derek here. I've been experimenting a lot lately with virtual production on some smaller independent gigs, often running an ALEXA Mini or a V-RAPTOR XL on a LED volume. We've used generative AI in the past, mostly for pre-vis or really rough animatics, think basic movement blocking, nothing I'd ever put on screen.

But the latest demos I'm seeing from things like Sora 2 and Kling 2.x are genuinely blowing my mind in terms of realism and consistency. It makes me wonder if anyone out there has actually started incorporating these generated video clips as final background plates in a VP workflow? Not just placeholder stuff, but actual, usable footage.

Are you seeing this tech mature enough to replace stock footage or even some basic VFX plates? Or am I getting ahead of myself? What are the biggest hurdles you've run into if you have tried?
