Navigating Insurance for Ultra Low-Budget Indie Films: GL Limits vs. Tight Pockets?

Hey everyone, as a location scout, I'm often helping productions secure their spots, and insurance is always a big topic. I'm currently working with a filmmaker on an ultra low-budget indie narrative, think a small crew, mostly friends, using a rented ALEXA Mini and a few PavoTube II 30X lights for key scenes. They're trying to figure out their production insurance. Everything I've seen 'recommended' for general liability suggests limits like $2M/$4M, and often bundling policies for things like equipment and workers' comp. For this project, where every dollar is accounted for, and they're barely covering craft services, these numbers feel astronomically high.

We've looked into some basic, bare-bones production policies, but even those seem to strain the budget. We're trying to achieve something insurable enough to satisfy basic location requirements without bankrupting the film before we even shoot. How do ultra low-budget indie filmmakers effectively balance these insurance recommendations with a truly shoe-string budget?
