Hybrid Soundtrack for Under $1000 - How to Avoid Generic?

Hey everyone,

As a location scout, I'm usually focused on the visual, but I'm trying to produce a short passion project on the side. I'm shooting on a C300 Mark III with some good glass, and I've got an Orbiter and a few Titan Tubes to make it look sharp. However, my entire music budget is under $1,000.

I've seen those industry guides that show music fees stretching from free to well over $75k, and that's a bit daunting. I’m thinking a hybrid approach is the way to go for my budget, mixing library tracks with some custom elements. My big worry is that it'll just sound like every other low-budget short out there. How do you integrate affordable custom pieces or manipulate stock tracks to create something genuinely unique and impactful without breaking the bank? What workflows or resources have you found effective for making a small music budget sound really polished and not just 'good enough'?
