Loudness & Compliance: When do you check and what's your routine?
Hey everyone,
I'm Diana, a working AD/Producer, and I've been wrestling with loudness and compliance more lately. We just wrapped a short corporate film shot on a C70 and an FX6, and of course, even for internal stuff, clients are getting pickier about audio levels. I've tried doing a quick loudness check with a VST sometimes at the end of picture lock, and other times after the full sound mix is done, usually with a 4017 on location and a Schoeps CMC641 in studio for VO. But I still sometimes get those frustrating 'it's too quiet here, but too loud there' notes. It feels like I'm always tweaking and re-exporting.
I'm curious, for those of you who have a solid routine, at what specific point in your edit or sound mix do you always conduct your loudness measurements? And what's your process for consistently hitting those targets and avoiding those back-and-forth revision notes?
