AB 2602 vs. Crew Misclassification: Which is the Bigger Financial Risk in 2026?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to get ahead on some production planning for a feature film I'm hoping to DP in late 2026. It’s looking like it’ll be a decent sized project, thinking ALEXA 35 and SkyPanel X for lighting, maybe some Orbiter fixtures for specialty stuff. Our budget will definitely be robust enough to handle the gear, but I’m trying to make sure we've got all our bases covered on the legal/financial front to avoid nasty surprises down the line.

I’m specifically thinking about two potential pitfalls: misclassifying crew members, which seems to always be a hot topic, and now this new AB 2602 stuff regarding AI consent, which is still a little hazy to me. My gut says misclassification could be huge, but I’m hearing rumblings about AB 2602 being a major new headache. We're trying to figure out which one poses the biggest immediate financial threat if we mess it up.

From your experience, which of these two mistakes (misclassifying crew or overlooking AI consent under AB 2602) presents the biggest immediate financial risk to a production in 2026?
