Skill Shift for Indie Compositors/Cleanup: AI Tools?
Hey everyone,
I'm an editor who occasionally dives into the compositing and cleanup world for smaller indie projects. Lately, I've been experimenting with Resolve's Magic Mask for some quick rotoscoping on a short I shot on my ALEXA Mini, and I've also been blown away by what RunwayML can do with object removal. It's making certain tasks incredibly fast.
This got me wondering: with these powerful AI-driven tools becoming more accessible, how do you all see the required skill set for a junior compositor or cleanup artist changing in the indie space? Are traditional roto and paint skills still as crucial for entry-level roles, or is there more emphasis now on understanding how to leverage and refine AI outputs?
I'm genuinely curious to hear what others are experiencing and what advice you'd give to someone starting out today.
