Gaffer for Minneapolis Micro-Budget Feature

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Gaffer to join our small, independent production for an upcoming feature film shooting in Minneapolis. This character-driven drama, with elements of a psychological thriller, explores themes of isolation and redemption. It’s a grounded, intense story that relies heavily on atmospheric lighting to enhance the emotional journey of our protagonist. As Gaffer, you will work closely with our Director of Photography to translate the visual aesthetic into practical lighting setups. Key responsibilities include lighting design and execution, managing the grip and electric team, ensuring safety on set, and troubleshooting any technical issues related to power and illumination. You'll be instrumental in shaping the look and feel of each scene. We're looking for someone with mid-level experience on narrative features or high-quality shorts, a strong understanding of various lighting techniques, and the ability to work resourcefully with a lean crew. While we will have some core lighting packages, ideally you have access to a basic kit of your own lighting equipment and tools, or a trusted vendor. A strong reel showcasing your lighting work is essential. Shoot dates are approximately 15-20 days spread across late summer/early fall, primarily scheduled on weekends and some weekdays to accommodate schedules. This is an equity partnership opportunity, suitable for someone passionate about independent cinema and eager to invest their talent in a compelling project. Meals and on-set support will be provided.
