Senior Screenwriter, Documentary - Atlanta

Hey filmmakers, we're looking for a senior screenwriter for an upcoming independent documentary project. This doc explores the hidden history of Atlanta's jazz scene in the 70s and 80s, uncovering forgotten stories and showcasing never-before-seen archival footage. The tone is investigative and nostalgic, aiming to bring this vibrant past to life for a new generation. We need someone who can craft a compelling narrative from extensive research materials, interviews, and archival footage, structuring the story emotionally and clearly. Key responsibilities include outlining, scriptwriting, and collaborating closely with our director and archival producer. You'll need prior experience writing for documentary features or series, a strong understanding of narrative storytelling within non-fiction, and be able to provide a portfolio or reel demonstrating your work. We anticipate script development to begin early next year, with an approximate 3-4 month timeline, working mostly remotely but with regular in-person meetings in Atlanta. Compensation is deferred, with a backend percentage offered. This is a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to a passion project with real cultural impact.
