Gaffer for Ind. Documentary (Auckland)

Documentary Cinematography Auckland, NZ mid Budget: Deferred pay

Hey filmmakers, I'm helping out on an independent documentary shoot here in Auckland and we're looking for a skilled Gaffer to join our crew. This is an upcoming project, a sensitive, character-driven documentary exploring the lives of local artists. We're aiming for a very naturalistic, Vermeer-esque lighting style, really digging into available light and subtle enhancement to evoke mood. Your main gig will be overseeing all lighting setups, working closely with the DP to execute their vision, and managing the grip and electric team. We'll need someone proficient with various lighting instruments, diffusion, and power distribution, ideally with some experience on documentary sets where adaptability is key. Please have your own basic kit, though we'll be renting specialized gear as needed. We're envisioning shoot dates sometime between late September and mid-October (approx. 10-15 days total), with typical 10-hour days. We're a small production company, so it's a tight-knit team, and a great chance to make an impact. This is a deferred payment opportunity, based on project funding and distribution. Please send over your reel and a brief note about your relevant experience!
