Art Department Assistant, Documentary Feature

Documentary Art Department New York, NY entry Budget: Negotiable

Hey everyone, I'm a Set Decorator on an upcoming independent documentary feature here in NYC, and we're looking for an Art Department Assistant to join our team. This film explores a really interesting slice of New York's cultural history, think heartfelt and a bit quirky, with a visual style that blends archival footage with thoughtfully designed contemporary scenes. We're a small but passionate crew, and this is a great opportunity for someone looking to get their foot in the door. Your main responsibilities would involve assisting with prop sourcing, organizing and tracking art department materials, helping with set dressing, and general on-set support. You'll be working closely with me and the Production Designer. We need someone who is organized, eager to learn, and has a good eye for detail. No specific gear required, but if you have a driver's license and can occasionally help with local pickups, that's a huge plus. This is an entry-level position perfect for someone who is reliable and has a strong work ethic. While previous set experience in the art department is beneficial, it's not strictly necessary, we're open to enthusiastic newcomers. Please send over a brief cover letter outlining your interest and any relevant experience you have, even if it's outside of film, to the email address provided upon inquiry. Our shoot dates are approximate but will be primarily over a few weeks in late spring, with prep starting sooner. Hours will vary, but expect full days during shooting. Compensation is TBD, negotiable, and will be discussed during the interview process. Looking forward to hearing from you!
