Production Designer, History Doc (Brooklyn)

Documentary Production Design Brooklyn, NY any Budget: Points + deferred

Hey filmmakers, I'm Rachel, a documentary editor, working on an upcoming independent production. We're looking for a Production Designer to join our team for a compelling feature documentary set in the world of overlooked historical injustices. The tone is reflective and investigative, and we're really excited about the visual storytelling possibilities. This project will largely use archival footage but we'll also have some critical re-enactment scenes and interviews that require thoughtful set design and prop management to really bring the past to life. This is where you come in! Your responsibilities will include conceptualizing and executing the visual tone for these re-enactments and interview backdrops, sourcing props and set dressing, and collaborating closely with our Director and DP to ensure a cohesive aesthetic. We're open to all experience levels, from seasoned pros to talented emerging designers. A strong eye for historical accuracy and detail is a must, and any relevant experience or a portfolio showcasing your design sensibility would be great to see. We anticipate shooting our designed scenes in late summer/early fall 2024, likely 3-5 days of principal photography spread out over a couple of weeks, plus prep time. We're a small, dedicated team and while this is a deferred pay position, we are offering points in the film. We're shooting in Brooklyn, and transportation and meals will be provided during shoot days. Let's make something impactful together!
