Cinematography for Documentary

Our independent production is seeking a dedicated Camera Assistant (AC) to join our small, agile crew for a documentary series pilot. This project delves into the untold stories of Chicago's underground jazz scene, capturing the raw energy and intimate moments of musicians and their craft. It's a visually driven piece, aiming for an authentic, cinematic, fly-on-the-wall feel. As our AC, you will be crucial in ensuring our camera department runs smoothly. Key responsibilities include camera setup and breakdown, lens changes, pulling focus, managing media (cards, drives), maintaining camera equipment, and assisting with lighting setups as needed. We'll be working with a cinema camera package, and your precision and proactive nature will be highly valued. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience on a documentary set. We're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for documentary filmmaking. While prior AC experience is a plus, we are open to working with enthusiastic individuals at any experience level who are eager to learn and contribute. You don't need to provide your own gear for this role. Familiarity with common cinema camera systems (e.g., Canon C-series, Sony FX-series) is a benefit. Please share any relevant work experience or a reel if you have one. Shoot dates are approximate and will primarily fall within the second half of November 2026, with an estimated commitment of 3-5 shoot days. Days will generally be 10-12 hours. Compensation is $150-300 per day, depending on experience. We'll provide craft services and a positive, collaborative set environment.
