Cinematography for Short Film

An independent production team is seeking a dedicated 1st Assistant Camera (AC) for an ambitious sci-fi short film. This project is a visually driven, character-focused story exploring themes of solitude and discovery in a near-future setting, with a moody, atmospheric tone. We aim for a festival run and a strong portfolio piece for everyone involved. We are looking to fill a critical gap in our camera department. Key responsibilities include camera setup, lens changes, focus pulling, managing camera logs, and assisting the DP on set. You will be instrumental in ensuring the technical quality and smooth operation of our camera package. Applicants should have 3-5 years of experience as a 1st AC on short films or similar productions. Experience with RED cameras and anamorphic lenses is a significant plus. A current camera owner-operator package is not required, but experience with professional cinema gear is essential. Please provide a reel or a list of relevant projects where you served as 1st AC. Shoot dates are approximately 3-4 days during the last week of September 2026, with 10-12 hour days. Production will provide craft services, meals, and on-set support. This is a deferred compensation role, offering points in the film and a deferred payment structure, with a focus on creating a high-quality project together.
