Cinematography for Short Film

Seeking a talented Gaffer for an upcoming independent sci-fi short film shooting in Albuquerque. This is a deferred compensation position (points + deferred pay). We're planning for a 2-day shoot, likely the third or fourth week of August 2026, with some prep days leading up to it. The film is a visually driven, atmospheric sci-fi thriller exploring themes of isolation and discovery on a distant planet. Think a blend of early Ridley Scott and contemplative indie sci-fi. We're aiming for a strong cinematic look with a focus on practical lighting effects and creative use of limited resources to evoke an otherworldly feel. We need someone who can help us achieve a high-quality, professional aesthetic on a tight schedule. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the DP on lighting plans, managing the lighting and grip equipment, supervising the electric and grip crew, and ensuring all safety protocols are followed. You'll be instrumental in shaping the visual tone of the film. Candidates should have mid-level experience as a Gaffer on short films or similar independent productions. Please have your own basic G&E kit, and be comfortable sourcing and managing additional rentals if needed (within our budget). A strong reel showcasing your work, particularly in genre films or projects with distinctive lighting, is essential. We're looking for someone collaborative, resourceful, and passionate about visual storytelling. Expect 10-12 hour days during the shoot.
