Directing for Documentary

Seeking an experienced (any level welcome) documentary Director to helm an independent production. This project is a character-driven observational documentary exploring the vibrant underground arts scene in Brooklyn, focusing on a collective of performance artists navigating gentrification and creative expression. The tone is intimate and raw, aiming for an authentic portrayal without judgment. We need someone who can lead a small crew, inspire trust in our subjects, and craft a compelling narrative from real-life events. Your key responsibilities will include creative vision and direction, guiding interviews, working closely with the Cinematographer, and overseeing the edit process to maintain narrative integrity. Applicants should have a strong directorial voice and a reel showcasing previous documentary or narrative work. While we appreciate gear ownership, it is not a requirement. We are looking for someone with a collaborative spirit and a passion for storytelling. Shoot dates are tentatively set for late October 2026, lasting approximately 15-20 days spread over 3-4 weeks. Prep will begin immediately. We provide production insurance, travel within NYC, and some meals. This is a paid position, offering $1000-$1500 per day, commensurate with experience. We are a small production company dedicated to impactful storytelling.
